Hello lovelies, if there's one iced tea my children hold out their glass for straight away, it's this wild berry iced tea. Fruity wild berry tea, gently sweetened with date syrup, with fresh lime juice and plenty of frozen berries – simple, but so much better and healthier than any store-bought syrup. And because it's based on fruit tea, it's caffeine-free and perfect for the little ones.

For a refreshing start to the day, my new green immune booster smoothie is just as quick to make – lime included.

The lovely thing is that the frozen berries take over the job of the ice cubes. They chill the tea and slowly release their flavour without watering it down. A generous squeeze of lime adds the freshness it needs, and you have a bright, berry-red summer drink ready in no time.

I especially love making ice cubes from coconut water and freezing edible flowers or berries inside – it delights the kids every time and looks beautiful. If you're after more fruity summer drinks, do try my Blackberry Melon Refresher, my refreshing Peach-Melon Iced Tea and my creamy vegan mango and raspberry ice cream.

TIPS

Verena's notes

Tip from my kitchen: the frozen berries do the job of ice cubes here, slowly releasing their flavour so the iced tea never turns watery. For the kids I love freezing berries or edible flowers in coconut water – it makes pretty decorative cubes and adds a subtle coconut note.

Frequently asked questions

  • Yes, very much so. Because it's based on fruit tea rather than black or green tea, it's naturally caffeine-free. With its gentle sweetness from date syrup and ripe berries, it's a healthier alternative to store-bought iced tea – the clear favourite in our house.

  • A wild berry or fruit tea is ideal, because it brings the fruity note with it and is caffeine-free. Choose organic quality so no residues end up in the glass, and pair it with matching frozen berries.

  • Of course. Frozen berries have the advantage that they chill the iced tea and don't dilute it as quickly. Fresh berries in season taste just as good – simply add a few more ice cubes.

  • Instead of table sugar I use date syrup, which dissolves well in cold tea and sweetens gently. Ripe berries already bring plenty of natural sweetness, so sweeten sparingly and add more only if needed.

  • Freeze some of the tea or a little fruit juice into ice cubes and use those instead of plain ones. Especially fun for kids: freeze edible flowers or berries in coconut water and drop them in as decorative cubes.
