Hello lovelies, today we're telling you once again about a wonderful weekend in the snow in Melchsee-Frutt. As I've written many times before, we love discovering beautiful places that aren't too far from home. That's exactly the case with the enchanting little spot of Melchsee-Frutt. Just an hour's drive from Affoltern am Albis, you can be whisked away into a wonderful mountain world, enjoy the snow as a family, and be pampered at the Frutt Family Lodge* — we can only highly recommend it.

A Snowy Weekend in Melchsee-Frutt
Melchsee-Frutt lies in the heart of Central Switzerland and is considered extremely snow-sure. Snow fun is on offer between 1,080 and 2,255 meters above sea level. The resort is car-free, and you arrive comfortably by gondola. At the valley station everything is wonderfully organized — you drop off your luggage there, park your car in the garage, and then make the trip up completely unburdened. Especially for us as a family, who pack heavily even for a weekend (above all in winter), that's of course a relaxed start to the weekend.

If you need ski or snowboard gear, you can also get it right at the valley station from Stöckli Swiss Sports AG. Just enter all your details online and the equipment is ready and waiting — no further waiting times.
Frutt Family Lodge
Once you're up top, a short footpath leads to the Frutt Lodge or Frutt Family Lodge. The two hotels belong together and are connected by an underground passage, which is extremely practical. As a guest of the Family Lodge, you can also use the Frutt Lodge's facilities, such as the spa (adults only) or the restaurants.
We were accommodated in the Family Lodge and got to move into a wonderful family suite. And the surprise really was a big one. A super spacious, cozy room awaited us — 2 rooms, to be precise. All kept in wood, yet still very contemporary and cozily furnished, so really a place to feel at home. The children were of course delighted by the adorable marmot bedding and the stuffed animal. We parents were thrilled by the amenities, the 2 bathrooms, the cozy bedroom, and the coffee/tea corner. And the highlight for everyone was definitely the magnificent view. The Family Lodge sits right on the lake with a gorgeous panorama of the mountains all around — wonderful.

But the Frutt Family Lodge otherwise offers all the comfort families could wish for. On the lower floor there's a great cinema that shows 3 changing films daily. There's also its own bowling alley, a fitness room, and the family spa. This offers not only an indoor, outdoor, and baby pool, but also a sauna, bio-sauna, and steam bath. We found that especially great, because children often aren't allowed in the sauna area, but here you can sweat together in the sauna as a family after a day in the snow — really lovely, we appreciate something like that very much!

There's also great childcare, open daily, even into the evening, and not only beautifully furnished but offering a varied program too. Magic tricks, crafts, baking — our girls loved being there, and so we parents got to enjoy a spa afternoon in the neighboring Frutt Lodge as well.

Restaurant
The lovely restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A generous breakfast buffet leaves nothing to be desired, and we were additionally surprised at the table with a few vegan extras like tofu, chia pudding, and vegan cheese. At lunchtime there's a selection of Italian dishes like pizza and pasta (which we didn't try, though). In the evening you can choose between à la carte dishes and an appetizer and dessert buffet. A special children's buffet is of course available too. And of course you can also use the restaurant in the Frutt Lodge.

Melchsee-Frutt Ski Area
Of course we'd also come to Melchsee-Frutt to enjoy the snow and ski with our children. The ski area is especially well suited to families — right in front of the Family Lodge you'll find the Fruttli-Land children's paradise. Since our children already ski better, though, on Saturday we headed for the Distelboden area. You have to walk a stretch along the lake, or go up through the Frutt Lodge, and then you can ski as far as the rope tow.
An Erzegg chairlift takes you up into the ski area, which offers several blue and red runs and is therefore ideal for the whole family. And just look at the luck we had with the snow and the sun — really a dream. There's also a snow park, where Papa Frei got to let off some steam with his snowboard too.

We would gladly have gone on to the other slopes around the Bonistock on Sunday, but since one of our daughters sadly came down with a fever in the night, we headed home a little earlier. We thoroughly enjoyed the ski day on Saturday, though. Besides skiing and snowboarding, Melchsee-Frutt offers quite a bit more for winter-sports fans. We saw lots of snowshoe tours, cross-country skiing, sledding, and ice fishing on the lake — all of that is possible too. So no one in the family is likely to get bored.

A snowy weekend in Melchsee-Frutt was wonderful for us in any case. A big thank you once again to the Frutt Family Lodge for the great accommodation, the service, and the delicious food. To Stöckli Swiss Sports AG for my ski gear, and to the mountain railways for the tickets that were provided to us.

Once again we realized how lucky we can count ourselves to live in this beautiful country and to be only a short drive from the mountains. We can highly recommend the Frutt Family Lodge, and we especially loved the combination with the Frutt Lodge, because that way you can use both and, as parents, take a little time out now and then. By the way, the Family Lodge wasn't home only to families, but to a colorful mix of guests, and we found that very nice.
So what's your family's favorite snow destination? And can you enjoy a view like this from your window there too?!? :-)
Love, Verena

*We were invited by the Frutt Family Lodge for the weekend — the blog post reflects my own opinion, though.
