Hello Lovelies, as promised the next two weeks are all about Christmas on the blog, lot of delicious recipes and also crafting ideas. As I mentioned before, we usually don’t make material gifts in our family and friends (among the adults), but we love to give each other homemade gifts – made with Love. Most of the times these are edible things, especially from my side – somehow people expect that when you have a Food Blog :-). I have to admit I’m not the biggest crafting talent, but I still always try to have a nice package or special presentation for the things I’m making. So today I’m not only sharing a recipe but also a cute and easy crafting tip (the idea for the jars is from Pinterest).

Rudolph Gläser Weihnachtsgeschenke basteln

I made a super yummy Speculoos and Chocolate Spread with seasonal spices for this years gift – something sweet, since I made a spice mix last Christmas. I also thought this would go so well with the cute Rudolph jars that I decorated with the girls. So here is the recipe:

Speculoos-Chocolate Spread

Speculoos-Chocolate Spread

Ingredients

    Speculoos-Creme:
  • 500 gr. Speculoos
  • 200 ml oat cream
  • 100 gr vegan butter
  • 1 Tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 Tsp cinnamon
  • 1 Tsp gingerbread spice
  • pinch of cloves
  • pinch of salt
  • chocolate creme:
  • 400 gr. hazelnuts
  • 200 ml oat cream
  • 4 Tbsp cacao
  • 3 Tbsp coconut oil
  • 6 Tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 Tsp cinnamon
  • some vanilla extract
  • pinch of salt
  • pinch of cloves

Method

    Speculoos-Creme:
  1. Add the cookies to a mixer/food processor and blitz them really fine (this is important to get a creamy consistency later)
  2. Add the remaining ingredients and mix well until you have a very creamy texture
  3. It can take some time until everything is well combined, depending on the food processor you are using.
  4. chocolate creme:
  5. Preheat the oven to 150 degree
  6. Roast the hazelnuts for 10-15 minutes, but keep an eye on them
  7. Add to a kitchen towel whole still warm and rub off the skin
  8. Add the hazelnuts to a mixer/food processor and mix well until they are creamy (this takes at least 5 minutes)
  9. Add the remaining ingredients and mix well until smooth and well combined
  10. Add the cremes to jars, building as much layers as you like

I used vegan Speculoos, I think it’s the most famous brand and should be available worldwide. You can also use less spices than I did, if you don’t want that christmassy taste. The spread is wonderful on toast with fresh fruits, with dessert but also just plain with a spoon right out of the jar!

And now the crafting tipp, I have seen similar on Pinterest, and thought they are so cute, easy to make and you don’t need many things. So this is perfect for me! You need:

  • brown pipe cleaners
  • brown crepe paper
  • little red balls
  • plastic eyes
  • red Washi-Tape
  • hot glue

I found all of this in my local Hardware store. Cut the crepe paper in stripes according to the size of your jar (you want the middle covered) and glue it to your jar (with regular glue). Put the washi-tape on the lid. Now you have to make the antlers: cut the pipe cleaner in 4 parts, 1 large and 3 smaller ones and fix them with the hot glue. Attach to the lid with the hot glue. Now add the eyes and the nose and your cute Rudolph jars are done.

I really hope I could inspire you a but and maybe you are giving something “Made with Love” this year as well. The spread is really perfect to make with kids and they had lot of fun helping to decorate the jars.

Love Verena
