Hello Lovelies, do you like granola for breakfast? We certainly do and I can’t remember, when was the last time, that I had bought one in the supermarket. But recently I found myself tempted to buy one. It was on sale, Dory or Demo where looking at me from the package and I even had put it in my shopping cart already. But then I was thinking, what is the reason I want to buy this. And I had to admit, the only reason would have been that I knew the girls would have liked the shape and the package of it. But on the other hand would I really want my kids to eat all that sugar in the morning, behause sadly that’s one main ingredient of most of the common cereals and they are overpriced as well (someone has to pay the license fee and the pretty packaging). Of course I don’t want that, so I put it back, went home and made my own granola.
Don’t get me wrong here, my kids are not forbidden to have sweets or sugar and or course they enjoy it too, but I try to limit it and if they have it I prefer homemade things, from which I know what’s in them.
So here is the recipe for the delicious chocolate granola I made. It’s not sugar free either, but it also contains lots of fibre form the oats and healthy unsaturated fats from the nuts. And we all know that chocolate makes happy and is god for your heart.
If you don’t have all the ingredients at home, than you can also add other nuts, seeds or fruits. And if you don’t have a chocolate spread at hand, than just melt some chocolate. Thats the thing I love about homemade granola, you can get creative and add many different things, sometimes I just use things up. This way your breakfast will never be boring.
You can keep the granola in a jar for up to 2 weeks, but it never lasts that long in our house :-). The kids love it with homemade almond milk. If you are looking for an easy recipe to make that at home as well, have a look at my basic recipe here: basic homemade almond milk.
I love my granola in a colorful bowl like the one above, with plant based yoghurt and lot of fresh fruits – so good!
