Red Smoothie

Ingredients

  • 2 beets
  • 5 carrots
  • 1/2 pomegranate
  • 2-3 cm fresh ginger
  • 1-2 cm fresh turmeric
  • 2 oranges
  • 1/2 mango (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 banana (frozen)
  • 1 tsp chia seeds
  • 2-3 leaves fresh basil (optional)
  • ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Juice the beets, carrots, pomegranate, ginger and turmeric
  2. Add the remaining ingredients and blend into a creamy smoothie
  3. Add ice cubes and water as needed until the desired consistency is reached

Notes

Beets colour and flavour strongly — if you prefer it milder, use one beet less and an extra carrot instead. For extra creaminess I freeze the banana in portions, so I barely need any ice cubes later. One little tip: turmeric stains a lot, so I just set a discoloured blender jug in the sun for a while and the stains disappear. I adjust the amount of ginger and turmeric depending on how much heat I feel like.
